Pieter Jan Note | EMODnet OPEN SEA LAB

Pieter-Jan Note is a naval Architect with a background in Mechanical/Aerospace engineering background. He holds a degree in Electro-mechanics from the University of Leuven and a Masters in Mechanical / Aerospace engineering. He later completed a an MSc program at the University of Southampton which provided the opportunity to explore applications of CFD, Design of sailing yachts, High Performance Craft.
Together with Julien Meert and Bertold Van den Bergh he has been working on Project Mahi, which has the objective to develop an Autonomous Unmanned Surface Vehicle (AUSV) to cross the Atlantic Ocean. The vessel will use solar panels to power the vessel and is built using composite materials. The solar panels will need to provide sufficient power for the propulsion and steering of the vessel and communication via satellite to shore. The transmission of its position, heading, speed and other sensor data will allow to track Mahi across the Atlantic Ocean.
