Maria Sotiropoulou | EMODnet OPEN SEA LAB

Maria Sotiropoulou has a Master in Computer Science (2013) from the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She joined the HCMR’s (Hellenic Centre for Marine Reserach) Operational Oceanography team in 2013 as a Software/Web developer. She has acquired extensive experience in oceanographic In-Situ data management including data curation, distribution and visualization. Indicative of her work has been the development and implementation of the MONGOOS data portal (http://oceanobs.mongoos.eu). Currently she is involved in many EU funded projects in the fields of ICT (Big Data Ocean) and Operational Oceanography (GreekEMSO, Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service). Together with colleagues from HCMR, she is participating in the BigDataOcean project implementing the Mare Protection pilot on an oil spill use case scenario. BigDataOcean project aims to become a significant maritime services market place for interrelated data streams coming from diverse sectors and languages and residing on cross technology innovations being delivered in different formats in order to revolutionise the way maritime - related industries work.
