Helene Hoffman | EMODnet OPEN SEA LAB

Helene Hoffmann is a Researcher at the Ecologic Institute - an environment research and policy think tank based in Berlin. She primarily works on marine and biodiversity policy issues, such as the Marine Strategy Framework Directive, the Integrated Maritime Policy and the Biodiversity Strategy.

Helene has a background in oceanography and marine sciences and is particularly interested in concepts such as Ocean literacy and the Blue Society to communicate Ocean issues to the wider public, as well policy makers. She considers these concepts essential to effectively communicate the importance of the Ocean to society in terms of providing essential ecosystem services (e.g. climate regulation, providing food sources, nutrient cycling), as well as highlighting environmental impacts that result from human activities and threaten Ocean health (e.g. overfishing, marine litter, eutrophication).
